Answers to Q&A
What INSPIRED you to become a model?
Becoming a model was actually a surprise turn of events for me. Although I have watched runway shows since I was little and have always been drawn to expressing myself and my personal style through fashion, I turned towards thrifting and tailoring my own clothes and never really considered modelling. I was at a thrift store trying on this incredibly loud, out of my comfort zone dress when I was approached by a scout. Even though I had no idea when I'd ever get the chance to wear that dress, I just had to take it home to commemorate the occasion.
What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?
On my own time, I love to dress up and do my makeup inspired by looks created by designers and fashion houses I see online so I’m very excited to be a part of a world where creative people are constantly coming up with new ideas. My day job is pretty sciency so it would be pretty cool to build a community of people who share the same personal passions as myself.
Also, I like to push boundaries with my style and am particularly hopeful to do more avant garde work. I am particularly impressed when someone is able to take a wacky idea or statement piece and create from it a cohesive look, and having an excuse to be dressed up in all kinds of styles, especially less day to day ones, would really feel like a dream come true!
Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?
I am definitely very new to this world, but something I’ve learned is that stepping into a character can be very freeing and can help build confidence. Even in my own life, I've noticed that different looks can hit even harder when paired with the right attitude. There is a lot that can be unnatural about having to pose while being directed and I feel like pretending you are someone else or tapping into a certain facet of your personality can make movements and energy flow much much easier. Plus it's really fun to discover new versions of yourself :)
share a fun fact about yourself!
A fun fact about me is that when I was younger, I kept a jumping spider I found outside my house as a pet to help me get over my fear - it actually worked and now I find jumping spiders super cute. I would still probably go for a cat or something for my next pet, though.
