Answers to Q&A
What inspired you to become a model?
I’ve been fascinated by fashion since I was a kid. My mum and I would watch fashion shows together, and my grandma, who loved crocheting and knitting, would make me clothes. She’d have me do little runway walks in front of everyone to show them off. That feeling of being celebrated really stuck with me. Even after shopping trips, my favourite part was walking into the living room to show everyone my new outfit.
I grew up in a society that doesn’t often celebrate certain body types or skin tones, especially being dark-skinned. But every time I watched a fashion show, I felt seen and appreciated. People often told me I looked like a model, and I held onto that passion. As I got older, I realized it was something I could actually pursue. I applied to WANT MANAGEMENT because I wanted to take a leap instead of just waiting to be discovered.
Growing up watching fashion shows made me feel represented in a society that often tries to dictate beauty standards, and now being part of it inspires me to create that same feeling for others.
What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?
I really enjoy everything about modeling: the freedom, the creativity, and the simple fact that you just get to be yourself. It’s exciting to see a creative vision begin as an idea in a portfolio and then come to life. Being part of that process is something I truly appreciate. Plus, it connects me with others in so many different ways.
Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?
The most important advice I can offer is to truly love what you do and prioritize loving yourself first. Modeling relies heavily on confidence, but that confidence begins with how you view yourself before anyone else does. Stay consistent, and take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Remember, don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Every model’s path is unique, and that’s what makes it beautiful.
Also, be patient because rejection is part of the journey, but it doesn’t determine your worth. The right opportunities will come your way when you stay true to yourself and remain committed.
