Answers to Q&A

What INSPIRED you to become a model?

When I was young, I was always the tall girl in all my classes, from kindergarten going onto high school. I was bullied a lot through elementary and middle school for being so tall, and skinny. Other kids would call me a “stick bug,” and it made me very insecure. I felt like what could I really do with my height other than sports. I didn’t feel confident and I wanted to find something to help me gain that confidence and be proud of my height. Modelling has helped me with that.

I never really thought about modelling until people starting telling me that I would be a great model and encouraging my parents to put me into it. In high school I was scouted by a photographer who asked me if I have tried it before, and since I hadn’t, I figured why not. The photos turned out really great and he submitted me to an agency in my hometown.

What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?

I love meeting other people in the industry, it honestly makes the whole modelling experience. I’ve met some lovely girls I lived with in a model apartment, and I’m still friends with them and we talk all the time. Being away from your family can be hard, so having that connection with others is incredibly rewarding and comforting. I’ve also worked with great professionals, which always helps when you’re on a new set, or modelling in a market you’re not familiar with.

Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?

I personally do not like to give advice because I feel everyone has their own experience in this industry, and it can be extremely different for others. The best thing I can say is don’t worry as much about what others are doing. Unfortunately some things come easier for others and your experience will not be the same. All you can do is make the most with what you have. Be adaptable, people will appreciate that the most, especially in an ever changing, fast pace industry like fashion.

share a fun fact about yourself!

I love music. You would think as a model my favourite form of art would likely be something more visual such as fashion or photography, however music will always have my heart. It’s brought me through some very tough times and also brought me up when I needed the hype. I feel music really brings out my silly and fun personality. The best combo is being on a set and there’s a banging playlist on and you’re getting into the zone. Bonus points if it’s 80s dance music, you will get some wicked poses and shots out of that.
