Answers to Q&A
Why did you want to become a model?
Funny enough modelling wasn’t something I’d ever really considered before getting signed. I was thirteen years old when I started, so only then did I really start to educate myself about fashion. I do remember being extremely excited by the prospect of travel. Modelling offered opportunities to see the world that I didn’t otherwise have, and I wanted to take advantage of that.
What makes you special?
This is a tricky question because my answer may not be the same as a casting director who sees potential in me. I think confidence (not cockiness) in yourself is huge, and something people really like to see. You hear it all the time but being a pretty face isn’t enough nowadays. I sew and knit, I play chess, and I’m constantly looking to educate myself.
What are you passionate about?
I love nature. I’m not sure if that counts as an answer but whenever I need a reset, you’ll find me beelining it for the woods. I’m a much happier person when I’m surrounded by trees.
Also, a material passion of mine would be sewing and hand embroidery. I’m still learning how to follow patterns, but I do quite a bit of hand embroidery and I have goals of making clothes for myself and my family one day.
What’s one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I have a vintage store in The Junction area of Toronto called “Thus” that I co-own with my husband Varak. We sell vintage clothing, costume and silver jewelry, art, and focus on collecting rare and unique items that represent small business/moments in time from Canada and Toronto. Our Instagram is @thats.thus
What’s a story your family/friends like to tell about you?
When I first started modelling I knew absolutely nothing about fashion, so my sister Tyg would give me little “fashion lessons” to help me learn. During one of my quizzes she showed me a logo and asked me to identify its brand name. I confidently said “Starbucks” believing that she had thrown me a trick question. It was Versace. Whoops!
